1. Create a profile

Create a personal profile on the NSW Pet Registry so you will be ready when you find your perfect companion animal.

2. Plan

Consider what is involved in being a responsible pet owner and decide if you can meet your pet’s needs. This includes the cost, whether you’d like a young or adult pet, and the time you can spend with them.

3. Find a pet

View animals available for adoption. You can call us to make an appointment or to talk about what pet will suit your family.

4. Adopt a pet

Once you have chosen your new pet, we will give you information on how to care for it. If you already have a dog, we’ll ask you to bring it to the shelter to meet your new dog. All cats and dogs adopted from the shelter are microchipped, de-sexed and registered.

5. Complete the paperwork and pay the adoption fee

You need to complete the animal owner/details form and pay the adoption fee so we can update the NSW Pet Registry. This will enable Council to return your pet if it goes missing and is found. Please note Sutherland Shire Animal Shelter is now cashless.

6. Register your pet

Login to the NSW Pet Registry and add the details of your new pet.

7. Take your new pet home

Congratulations! You’ve done your research and found the perfect pet. Here are some tips to help your new furry friend settle in.
