Road safety
We operate various programs and events to promote road safety.
Child restraint checks
Free fittings and safety checks of baby capsules, boosters and child restraints in cars.
Parents of learner driver workshops
Help for supervisors of learner drivers.
Council car parks
Information about Council car parks showing number of regular and accessible car parking spaces and time restrictions.
Parking and safety
We are responsible for the management and regulation of safe and fair access to parking.
Parking in school zones
Our officers regularly patrol school zones to monitor parking compliance. You can report illegal parking too.
Boat trailer parking
Boat trailers (and boats they carry) in Sutherland Shire can be impounded if parked on streets or an area for more than 28 days.
Loading zones
Loading zones support businesses that don’t have off-street loading or parking facilities. Our officers monitor loading zone rules and may issue fines for misuse of loading zones.
Illegal vehicle advertising
It is illegal to advertise a vehicle for sale on a public road or in a public place under the Local Government Act 1993 – Section 68, Part E (2).
Disability parking permits
People with a temporary or permanent condition that affects their mobility may be eligible for the NSW Mobility Parking Scheme.
Cronulla Residents Parking Permit Scheme
Parking permits are available for households in a specific part of Cronulla.
Abandoned vehicles and shopping trolleys
Council officers investigate reports of abandoned vehicles in public places. Vehicles on private property are managed by land owners and occupier of the premises.
Pay or enquire about a parking fine
Parking officers patrol Sutherland Shire and may issue fines for road rule offences. Revenue NSW is responsible for receiving, processing and collecting fine payments.
Report road and footpath damage
Help us keep Sutherland Shire roads in top condition by reporting footpath and road damage.
Roads and footways - frequently asked questions
The footway is the Council owned land between the private property boundary and the road. This area may include grass, street trees, footpaths, signs, driveways and street furniture.
