Keeping our waterways clean matters to our community, our visitors, and the plants and animals that rely on them.
Our Catchment and Waterways Strategy - PDF - 3567 KB outlines how we'll better care for local catchments and waterways. It also explains how we'll work with the community and key stakeholders to protect and manage these important spaces for future generations.
Our Waterway Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) projects help improve water quality by reducing the amount of pollution carried into waterways. Once installed, Stormwater Quality Improvement Devices (SQIDs) such as Gross Pollutant Traps (GPTs) are mostly out of sight, with only a small access plate visible.
Our specialist contractors clean them about every three months, removing litter and other pollutants before they can impact our waterways.
Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD)
This concept forms the overall approach to managing stormwater sustainably, working with our natural landscape to protect and improve the health of our waterways.
Stormwater Quality Improvement Devices (SQID)
These are stormwater assets used to improve the quality of water that runs off from buildings and roadways. They can include wetlands, trash racks, sediment traps and GPT's.
Gross Pollutant Trap (GPT)
These are devices that capture bulk litter and debris that makes its way into our stormwater network, removing it before it can reach our waterways.
