Working in local government gives you the chance to make a difference to your community every day.

If you’re passionate about delivering great customer service and want to work for an organisation that lives by its CARE Values of Collaborate, Achieve, Respect and Evolve, we invite you to consider joining our team.

Many of our apprentices, trainees and cadets have gone on to have successful careers at Sutherland Shire Council and in other government or private organisations.

Apprenticeships

Earn while you learn with an apprenticeship that combines hands-on experience and formal training.

Over three to four years, you'll work alongside skilled trade professionals while gaining a nationally recognised qualification in fields such as horticulture, civil construction, and sports turf management.

Traineeships

Build valuable skills and experience through a traineeship, combining hands-on learning with a nationally recognised qualification in areas such as business administration, childcare, safety, and animal care.

Traineeships typically run for one to two years, giving you the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and build a strong foundation for your career.

Cadetships

Kick-start your professional career with a cadetship designed for university students in their penultimate (second-last) or final year.

Over up to two years, you'll gain practical industry experience aligned with your studies while you complete your degree.
