We invite local primary schools to visit Sutherland Shire Council Chambers.
These visits provide students studying civics and government studies with the opportunity to learn more about how local government works and the role it plays in the community. Visits are designed to support the Stage 3 curriculum (Years 5–6).
What’s included:
- Student information pack - PDF - 1778 KB: This pack provides a simple overview of Council and includes resources to support students’ understanding of local government.
- Introductory video: A short video will be shown at the start of the visit. It is introduced by our employees and highlights the different types of work they do to make the Sutherland Shire a great place to live, work and play.
- Council Chambers access: Students will visit the Council Chambers and learn about local government, including Council’s key roles and functions.
- Mock Council meeting: Students will take part in a mock Council meeting to help them gain a better understanding of how meetings are conducted and how decisions are made.
Visits will run for approximately 90 minutes and start at 10:00am. Due to seating limits in the Council Chambers, each visit is limited to 65 students. If your total student group is larger, you will need to request two separate dates. If requesting two separate dates, please complete two separate request forms.
