We are constructing a vehicle roundabout and a raised pedestrian crossing.

Intersection of Wandella Road and Parkside Avenue, Miranda, New South Wales.

Project background

Following the reconstruction of Wandella Road carpark, we are now commencing the delivery of a new roundabout at the intersection of Wandella Rd and Parkside Ave.  There are a lot of different traffic movements within this area and these improvements will ensure additional traffic safety in the area. By incorporating a raised pedestrian crossing in Parkside Ave, pedestrian safety will also be increased at the entrance to the Seymour Shaw Skate Park.

Project scope

The work includes:

  • Realignment of existing footpath, kerb and median islands.
  • Construction of a vehicle roundabout.
  • Construction of a raised pedestrian crossing.
  • Installation of two new street light poles over the pedestrian crossing.
  • Handrail and guide fences.
  • Traffic signage and line marking.

Impacts during construction

The central island of the roundabout will be carried out at night. Traffic controls will be in place during the course of the construction work.  Wandella Rd and Parkside Ave may be partially closed from time to time. Some kerbside parking will be removed to allow for safe approaches to the roundabout.  We understand that this work may have certain impacts to the public and apologise for any inconvenience. We appreciate your patience while we carry out these essential improvement works.

We will keep you updated as the work progresses and thank you for your patience.

Funding

This project is fully funded by Sutherland Shire Council.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The roundabout will improve the safety and efficiency of turning movements to and from Parkside Avenue.
  • The roundabout will allow the circulation of traffic to and from the area via the use of U-turn movements. This should reduce the queuing of vehicles waiting to turn.

  • Sight distances for vehicles and pedestrians will also be improved.
  • The work will improve the safety of bicycles and scooters using Wandella Road.
  • The new pedestrian crossing will ensure increased safety for pedestrians within Parkside Ave wishing to cross into Seymour Shaw Park.

No trees will be removed as part of these planned works for this project.

These works are separate to the new car parking area although, part of the overall upgrade of Seymour Shaw Park precinct.  We do not anticipate any disruption to the new parking area.
