Tidal baths and ocean rock pools provide residents and visitors with another recreational swimming option in Sutherland Shire.

Tidal baths provide safe and functional access to enclosed swimming areas in estuarine environments. They also provide safe access to the water for recreational activities such as fishing and diving. In some cases, they provide access for boats to transfer passengers to and from land.  All our tidal baths are netted.

Ocean rock pools provide enclosed swimming areas in ocean environments on the Cronulla Peninsula.  We have ocean pools in Cronulla and a netted swimming area at Silver Beach, Kurnell.

Council undertakes regular maintenance in and around our ocean pools. Visitors should ensure they enter and exit ocean pools carefully and take note of local signage cautioning against hazards, including slippery surfaces and natural hazards such as sharp and uneven edges, sea urchins and oyster shells which may be present.  We encourage users to carefully assess these risks as Council is not responsible for any injuries sustained.

It is also important that adults take care to fully supervise children in and around tidal baths and ocean pools.

Dogs are not allowed in public bathing areas, including rock pools, tidal baths such as Gunnamatta, Gymea Bay and Lilli Pilli, and beaches (unless designated a dog off-leash area).
