Our Duty Planners provide very high-level verbal advice on matters which may need to be considered in a development application.

The Duty Planner service is free and better suited to people with a limited understanding of the planning system, and for less complex applications such as home alterations and additions.

Duty Planners will be able to discuss:

  • Where to find out more information about a property’s zoning and the development controls which apply to your land
  • The types of issues which would need to be considered in the preparation of an application
  • The lodgement and assessment process

Duty Planners however won’t be able to provide:

  • Written advice
  • Feedback on a draft proposal
  • A complete briefing on all relevant development controls which apply to your land, and potential development outcomes
  • A bespoke written application for your lodgement.

If an application is required, you are likely to need to engage your own planning consultant to answer your relevant questions, prepare relevant documents and then seek formal pre-lodgement advice.

How to talk to a Duty Planner

You can talk to a Duty Planner either in-person or over the phone.

In-person meetings are for a maximum of 15 minutes and take place at our administration building at 4-20 Eton Street, Sutherland NSW.

Community members are requested to book meetings in advance at this web page.

Booking meetings in advance means that:

  • We will be able to consider the issues you want to discuss, before we meet with you; and
  • You can secure a meeting with the Duty Planner at the time you want

Separately, use this form to make an online request, or call 02 9710 0333 between 8:00am-5:00pm on ordinary business days, to request a callback from a Duty Planner.

As noted above, if you are an applicant with draft development plans, you should seek formal pre-lodgement advice rather than seek a meeting with a Duty Planner.
