Project background
We are excited to let you know that Council is planning to upgrade the playground and picnic area at Dunningham Park, Cronulla. We know the playground at Dunningham Park is well used and much loved – and in need of upgrading. This upgrade will improve the condition, safety and recreational qualities of the playground and surrounding park area.

Consultation with the community
Council consulted with the local community and stakeholders about the playground and picnic area at Dunningham Park upgrade between August and September 2022. Find out more here.
Project scope
The current work includes:
- Upgrade of existing play equipment
- Increase the range of play equipment catering to a wider range of ages
- Improve the play area, softfall material and overall space
- Safety improvements within and around the playground
- Additional seating and picnic tables
- Improvements to lighting
- Access improvements to meet all abilities
- Drainage improvements and landscaping.
Project schedule
Site Establishment – February 2024
Practical Completion – September 2024
Opened to the Community - 27 September 2024
Impacts during construction
The site area will be closed for public use during the construction period.
Alternative playgrounds are located nearby at Cronulla Park, Don Lucas Reserve, and Shelly Park
Normal access to the playground and park will be uninterrupted.
