Cycling enthusiasts of all ages are being urged to gear up for an adventure-packed day as Sutherland Shire Council teams up with PCYC Sutherland and Endeavour Cycles to bring back the much-anticipated annual ‘Bike to the Beach’ ride event on Sunday 17 September.

Sutherland Shire Council encourage keen cyclists, beginners, and families to mark the date in the calendar and get set to take part in the highly anticipated event. Those taking part will traverse a picturesque 7km cycling journey starting at Taren Point Shorebird Reserve, providing a fantastic opportunity for riders of all ages and skill levels to explore Sutherland Shire Council’s dedicated, safe cycle paths.

Event participants will enjoy the award-winning Woolooware Bay Shared Pathway, cruising along the stunning foreshore, passing Solander playing fields, all the way to the finish line at Don Lucas Reserve in Cronulla.

Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Carmelo Pesce shared his excitement, saying he couldn’t wait to see the event make its long-awaited return, calling on local residents to sign up and get involved in what promises to be a fun family day out.

“Our traditional ‘Bike to the Beach’ event has been a real family favourite in previous years, offering an amazing opportunity for cyclists of all ages and abilities to get out and enjoy taking their bikes for a spin around some of the most beautiful parts of the Sutherland Shire,” Mayor Pesce said.

“We know how much local residents love getting out and getting active, with our ‘Bike to the Beach’ event providing a great chance to embrace the outdoors and explore some of our most popular cycleways.

“We encourage anyone that enjoys cycling to secure a spot for themselves and family members for what has become the Sutherland Shire premier cycling event.

“This event is all about celebrating the joy of cycling, increasing awareness and encouraging the use of our safe cycle pathways, and spreading the word about road and bike safety.”

The course is super manageable for riders of all ages and levels of experience, and volunteers will be stationed at crossing points, offering a helping hand. Young riders can also opt in for a fun challenge to collect progress stamps along the way.

The cycling route is open from 10am, and our volunteers will be there until the very last registered rider crosses the finish line. Participants are urged to ensure their bike is in roadworthy condition, including having a working bell, and to remember to wear a helmet to ensure safety and to comply with NSW cycling laws.

The finish line at Don Lucas Reserve will be a hub of excitement for participants and supporters alike to enjoy. Hosting several free activities, from an inflatable obstacle course to giant slides, a reptile show, facepainting, food and drink stalls, giveaways, and games.
