Filming and Photography

Filming in the Shire

The Shire is easily accessible by train and car and located just 25 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD and 20 minutes from Sydney Airport.  Its natural beauty, cultural centres, community and sports facilities and thriving commercial centres make it suitable for all types of film projects.

Council welcomes film projects and adheres to the Local Government Filming Protocol (pdf) guidelines.  These guidelines were developed in consultation with local councils, government agencies and the film industry.  As well as being a guide for councils, the protocol assists filmmakers getting started with their project, particularly in relation to permits and plans they may need.

If you are filming on private land, you do not need our approval but you do need to provide us with a film management plan (refer to the Filming Protocol for further details).

Why choose the Shire

Our booking officers can give guidance on suitable locations for your project and will also assist with your application and liaise with you about any regulatory matters under council's control, including management of your project (eg, parking, any required temporary road closures, guidance about neighbourhood notification requirements, traffic regulation and the use of council managed land).

To apply complete the online form for a Filming and Photography Permit. You will need to attach a brief of your intended activity. The brief should outline shoot details and the nature of your activity, parking and essential vehicles on site, safety requirements, road closures, temporary structures, etc.
