Woolooware Road and Denman Avenue, Woolooware.

Project timeline

Project start:  March 2023

Expected completion:  May 2024

Project background

Council is pleased to advise that a new shared pathway to support increased growth in Woolooware Bay will start in late March 2023 and be completed by June 2023.

We thank the local community for feedback about the new pathway when we provided information about the project between October and December 2022. Your feedback has been considered by Council and helped shape the final pathway design.

Council is implementing this shared pathway as part of our Active Transport Strategy. We are committed to ensuring the Sutherland Shire has a safe, connected and accessible active transport network (physical activity transport such as walking and cycling).

The shared pathway is approximately 2.3kms long over 4 stages and is aimed at providing our community options for active transport by connecting key areas to public transport.

Scope of works

shared pathway will be delivered over four stages and will improve safety for residents wishing to walk or cycle within their local area. Council will be delivering stages 1 and 2 starting in March 2023.

Stage 1 will start at the northern end of Woolooware Road adjacent to Woolooware Golf Course connecting with the existing shared pathway at Captain Cook Drive. Work will continue along Woolooware Road and then along the northern side of Denman Avenue to the existing pedestrian crossing. From Woolooware train station, stage 2 of the shared pathway will continue along the southern side of Denman Avenue to Franklin Avenue, Cronulla.

Future stages will extend the shared pathway to Cronulla Town Centre, from Franklin Road to Phillip Street, Burke Road and Croydon Street.   More information on the project can be found in our ‘Active Transport Information Sheet’ addressing key questions asked about shared pathways.

The proposed route considers the most direct, safest and level route.  The works will include:

  • Demolition of existing pathway surfaces
  • Construction of new concrete pathway
  • New pram ramps
  • New golf course fence
  • Pavement symbols and signage.
