We're creating a new community park on Oak Road, Kirrawee to meet increased demand for open space.

168 Oak Road, Kirrawee NSW 2232

Project timeline

Project start: July 2021.

Expected completion: November 2022.

Project background

Council purchased this land in 2019 using developer contributions. It will now be transformed into a new park the whole community will enjoy.

We consulted with the community about what they wanted in a new park in March-April 2020. Feedback indicated interest in a playground, sitting spaces and a community garden. Common suggestions included opportunities for play, seating, shade, a bike track, trees and exercise equipment. This formed our concept plan, published in April 2021 and available for comment March-April 2021. Feeback from this round of consultation is available in the summary report.

Planning is currently underway by Transport for NSW for the Kirrawee to Cronulla section of the Sutherland to Cronulla Active Transport Link (SCATL). This is an important pedestrian and bicycle pathway connecting key destinations in Sutherland Shire. We continue to plan and construct the park whilst Transport for NSW finalise the route of the SCATL path.

Project scope

The concept plan for the new park includes:

  • seating
  • shade
  • a walking track
  • trees
  • fitness equipment for exercise and play
  • multi-purpose area allocated for potential community use such as a community garden or similiar.

Impacts during construction

The site will be fenced and closed during construction. There may be some inconvenience to parking and vehicle access as materials are delivered to the site. There may be some noise and dust during the work. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate the community's patience during this important work.

Funding

This project is fully funded from developer contributions.
