Project timeline

Project start:  APR 2025

Expected completion:  JUL 2025

Project background

Gwawley Park Oval South includes AFL and cricket fields and is used year-round by AFL, Touch Football, Cricket, Oz Tag, local schools, and the wider community. We’re pleased to let you know that Council, in partnership with the Office of Sport and AFL is upgrading the oval’s lighting and power supply.

The outdated floodlighting will be replaced with modern, energy-efficient lighting to improve visibility and safety for players and spectators. These works will support increased access to the fields for training, competition, and community events, helping local clubs continue to grow and thrive.

Project scope

The work includes:

  • Removal of existing sports lighting and poles.
  • Installation of 4 new floodlight poles with LED luminaires on the sports field.
  • Upgrade of electrical supply including the installation of a new main switchboard
  • Installation of an automated lighting control system.

Project schedule

Site Establishment – April 2025

Expected Practical Completion – July 2025 (weather permitting)

Official Commissioning Ceremony - 4 July 2025

Impacts during construction

Works shall not have any impact on normal field activities during the construction period.  While parts of the site may occasionally be closed to the public, most of the site will remain open.

Existing timber light poles will only be made redundant and removed off-site after the commissioning of new light poles.

We appreciate the support and collaboration of our sports clubs and local user groups during this process.

We will keep you updated as the work progresses and thank you for your patience.

Funding
