MEDIA RELEASE - Nurture your green thumb at Council’s Community Nursery Open Day

Visits to Council’s Community Nursery are set to bloom this month as staff and volunteers eagerly prepare to welcome visitors through the gates for the Community Nursery Open Day, where plenty of native plants will be available for purchase and perusal.

The Open Day on Saturday 11 March will also see extended trading hours from 8am to 1pm, providing more opportunities for residents to visit and collect their two free native seedlings offer.

Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Carmelo Pesce is encouraging residents to come along and browse the extensive range of native plant species on offer which are sourced through seed and cuttings collected by Council staff and Bushcare volunteers.

“We’ve got a superb selection of native plants on offer at the Community Nursery which will make great additions to local gardens and planting projects across the area, and our friendly nursery staff are always on hand to offer tips and advice on plants best suited to your garden,” Mayor Pesce said.

“Now is the perfect time to nurture your autumn gardens and start preparing for winter displays, and these carefully sourced plants will provide habitat for birds and insects, are low maintenance and can tolerate wet and dry conditions.

“So come along to the Community Nursery Open Day and don’t forget to bring a bag or box to carry any purchases made on the day.”

Residents will be required to present their native seedlings voucher from the July 2022 rates notice to collect the free seedlings offer.

A reminder that the nursery is cashless and does not accept payment by cash or cheque. Payments from savings, debit, credit card or transaction account over the counter are accepted.

The Community Nursery is located at 345 The Boulevarde, Gymea.
