MEDIA RELEASE

Local seniors will discover more reasons to celebrate living in Sutherland Shire this month with Council’s annual Seniors Festival providing exciting opportunities for residents to build connections and explore the many valuable local services on offer to enhance their lifestyles.

True to this year’s event theme, ‘Let’s celebrate’, senior residents can look forward to more than 30 exciting activities right across the community from Wednesday 1 to Sunday 12 February.

Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Carmelo Pesce welcomed the announcement of the Seniors Festival program and looks forward to seeing many residents involved.

“Our Seniors Festival program presents an enjoyable mix of activities and programs led by Council and in partnership with local organisations, which will provide tailored opportunities for likeminded residents to feel more connected to our local community,” Mayor Pesce said.

“Each year take we this opportunity to thank, celebrate and recognise seniors for the positive contributions they make to the community, and we’ve got a great program once again this year which should see many local seniors out and about celebrating all the great reasons for living in the Sutherland Shire.”

Some of the program highlights include guided bushwalks and heritage trail walks, surf and beach safety programs, art workshops, aquatic activities, comedy performances, wellness workshops, technology and information seminars. The program will close with the Seniors Expo at Gymea Tradies where residents can learn more about the many services and opportunities available to support people through their retirement years.

Booking requirements vary for each activity. For more information on the complete program of events and how to book, visit: www.sutherlandshire.nsw.gov.au/seniorsfest2023

Sutherland Shire Council is also encouraging senior residents to take part in the 2023 Local Seniors Survey to better understand how older people in our community use and value Council services.

The survey is open until 1 March 2023 via Council’s Join the Conversation platform at: jointheconversation.sutherlandshire.nsw.gov.au/seniors-survey-2023

Residents who complete the survey can go into the draw to win one of four $100 vouchers for lunch at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre, followed by a free guided tour of current exhibitions.
