Cycling is a fun and increasingly popular way to explore Sutherland Shire. We have 27 km of dedicated shared walking and cycling paths, and we plan to build on our existing network over the next 20 years. Our cycling infrastructure will be expanded to include a network of safe, comfortable, direct and attractive local and regional links and associated facilities.

The Woolooware Bay Shared Pathway is ideal for children, while more experienced riders should check out the Market Place to Akuna Oval route.

To get you started, we’ve created videos for several bicycle routes around Sutherland Shire, including:

Cycle to School

The Cycling to School project focuses on encouraging more children to cycle to school. Its aim is to facilitate behaviour change in a school community to:

  • encourage and support continuing long term active transport use,
  • help to reduce traffic / parking congestion around schools,
  • improve the health and wellbeing of children,
  • support greater social / community cohesion,
  • increase self-confidence and transport independence for children,
  • increase road safety awareness and skills,
  • encourage other family members to be more active etc.

With grant funding assistance from the RMS Walking and Cycling Program - Non Infrastructure Proposals  Connecting Centres (Cycling) – Sutherland Shire Council engaged Rideability to undertake the pilot Cycle to School project at Sutherland North Primary School and Woolooware Primary School.
