Highway Patrol session

The "U Turn the Wheel" program is currently being run in every High School in the Sutherland Shire, with an additional seven schools from the St George area also taking part. The program is supported by Sutherland Shire Council, working closely with Council's Road Safety Officer.

With presenters from NSW Ambulance, Youthsafe, local Highway Patrol Officers, 2Connect Youth & Community, and LTrent Driving School, each school's Year 11 students are involved in discussions covering topics such as:

  • Managing distractions
  • Consequences of speeding
  • Drink/drug driving
  • Buying a safe car
  • The Graduated Licensing Scheme
  • Safe passenger behaviour
  • Smarter decision making

The program reinforces the messages that parents and schools are trying to get their young drivers to heed - that the decisions and actions made by drivers on the road are their responsibility alone, and can often lead to unforeseen and tragic consequences. All the presenters promote the same concept - IT'S YOUR CHOICE!
