We're set to deliver improved pedestrian access, expanded outdoor dining areas and greener spaces with the addition of street parklets in Flora Street under our trial ‘Dine and Revitalise’ project.

Dine and Revitalise project background

This trial project has been made possible through the enthusiastic support of surrounding business stakeholders and through a successful grant application to the NSW Government’s ‘Streets as Shared Spaces’ program.

The aim of the trial program is to create a vibrant and active space with wider footpaths, parklets and opportunities for expanded outdoor dining as well as safer pedestrian crossings, testing community appetite for a public space to be reimagined in the heart of Sutherland town centre.

You will notice some changes to the streetscape while this trial project is underway, with Council working to ensure minimal disruption while these changes are introduced. Among the changes you will notice is the relocation of the Flora Street bus stop and taxi rank, with Council already working closely with Transport for NSW and taxi operators to ensure these changes do not cause unnecessary inconvenience to regular users of these services.

These changes will be introduced as a trial initially, with the opportunity to change the scale and scope of the project or to revert to the original streetscape design to be determined by feedback from local business operators, residents and other key stakeholder groups.

Council wishes to acknowledge the enthusiastic support provided to the project so far from the surrounding community, and we look forward to keeping all relevant stakeholders informed and engaged in this trial as the project progresses.

This project has been made possible through Sutherland Shire Council’s successful application to the NSW Government ‘Streets as Shared Spaces’ program, with a $500,000 grant awarded to the project.
