Family Day Care is nurturing, safe and fun. With only four children in care in the Educator's own home, it mirrors the warmth and security of a family environment.

About Jillian

I am a qualified early childhood teacher with 25 years’ experience in Children’s Services, Early Education Centres, preschools and 24-hour care.

I joined Sutherland Shire Council Family Day Care in 1997. I left to have my second child and enjoy being a mum. I returned to Family Day Care because I believe it's one of the best services for young children.

Respect for each child and their family is paramount. I listen, observe and interact with families. Constant communication is key. I recognise that the family is the child’s first and most important teacher and I involve and invite parents into every aspect of the curriculum.

I embrace cultural diversity. We respect every family's values, beliefs, cultural backgrounds, traditions, life experiences and knowledge. I encourage families to share their culture, language and experiences with the group. I provide a learning environment which is inclusive and respectful to all.

I recognise and value the relationships children have with me and the other children in care. I provide a very welcoming, warm and flexible play-based learning environment. The children develop by exploring their world through stimulating and challenging play.

On a personal note, I am married with two young adult daughters.

About my service

Our daily routine includes a variety of structured and free play activities. I plan our program based on each child's interests, milestones and needs.

Our curriculum features:

  • language and literacy experiences
  • science fun
  • arts and crafts
  • nature based activities including gardening
  • music and movement
  • play dough and manipulative toys for fine motor skills
  • outdoor physical play for gross motor development
  • creative play
  • sensory experiences

The children enjoy opportunities to explore our local community, including the local park and library. We attend organised excursions based on the children's interests.

I maintain regular written observations of each child. These help to develop the curriculum for the children in care. In all cases our program is linked to the Early Years Learning Framework as well as other theorists’ works.

About my facilities

My service is in Engadine, two minutes off the Princes Highway. It offers easy access for parents travelling from Wollongong and the South Coast.

We are in a quiet and conveniently located street.

We provide a dedicated facility within my home for the children in my care.  Our indoor space is ideal for enjoying a wide range of play-based learning activities and group times.

Outdoors, there is a large covered deck where the children enjoy a sandpit, ride on toys, tunnels and balls.

"My boys have grown up with Jillian over the past three years and we all love her. She is professional, kind and caring. She always puts the kids first and looks at new ways to improve their early education."

“Initially we switched to Family Day Care because of the small group size and less chance of my daughter always getting sick from being exposed to so many other kids. Little did I know, there are so many more benefits to Family Day Care which Jillian demonstrates week in and week out.”

“I love how much Jillian cares for the children. I love her communication with parents – the occasional text message during the day with a reassuring photo and the detailed daily emails and photos.”
