Cronulla Beach Ocean Pool (South Cronulla) Temporary Closures for Scheduled Cleaning and Maintenance 2021
The two ocean pools at Cronulla are much-loved swimming locations for residents and visitors alike.
The ocean pool at Cronulla Beach (also known as South Cronulla) is an Olympic-sized tidal pool adjacent to the Esplanade. The pool was designed to naturally flush by the action of tide and waves overtopping the seawall to maintain water quality. With changing seasonal tides and ocean conditions, however, the pool frequently fills with sand and seaweed which reduces the depth of the water in the pool. This continual influx necessitates regular pool closure and mechanical removal of the sand to re-establish water depths.
Cronulla Beach ocean pool will be closed for scheduled cleaning and maintenance in 2021 (weather and ocean conditions permitting) on the following dates:
- January 20 - 22
- February 22 - 25
- March 22 – 26
- April 5 – 8
- May 18 – 21
- June 21 – 24
- July 19 – 23
- August 16 – 20
- September 15 – 17
- October 12 – 15
- November 1 – 4
- December 13 – 16
Each cleaning requires the removal of approximately 2000-2500 m3 of sands and requires regular pool closure.
Thank you for your patience during these maintenance periods.
