Mayor's Message 01 May 2019

This weekend is the Relay for Life, an annual overnight community event that raises money for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention, information and support services. The 24-hour relay is one of the largest fundraising events in Australia that has been supported in Sutherland Shire for many years, and it’s an event I never miss. I will be there again this year, alongside my fellow Councillor Steve Simpson who will open the race in honour of his late son Adam who passed away earlier this year following a long battle with cancer, and all the families who have been touch by cancer. The Relay for Life event is a chance for people to come together and raise money while showing their support for each other. Some people do the relay in memory of a loved one who has passed away from cancer. Others are proud survivors who want to share their story and inspire others with their strength. The Relay for Life is an amazing experience for everyone who attends and features entertainment, celebration and remembrance ceremonies. This year the relay will again be at Don Lucas Reserve, Wanda Beach, Cronulla. You can join a team or walk on your own. To register, donate or find out more about Relay for Life, visit
