Our community strongly values open spaces and we want to ensure there are fun and safe places everyone can enjoy, whether that be our local residents and families or visitors to the area. We are prioritising investment in our existing facilities to support the high level of service that our community currently enjoys and I was proud to recently reopened Corea Street Oval, Miranda after Council invested $600,000 to upgrade the playing field, irrigation, fencing, and footpath network. These upgrades make the much loved sporting facility more accessible for all to enjoy and increase the capacity of the field to support additional demand. We’ll also soon be unveiling two exciting waterways upgrade projects at Burraneer and Illawong, in partnership with the NSW Government, and Council is also rolling out its biggest Playground Renewal Program in years, with over 10 playgrounds across Sutherland Shire being reinvigorated this financial year. Our playground renewals program is improving the standard of local, district and regional playgrounds across Lilli Pilli, Engadine, Bonnet Bay, Caringbah and Caringbah South, Como, Kareela, Heathcote, Cronulla, Miranda and Grays Point, and ensuring existing play spaces provide a high level of service to our community into the future. We have over 600 parks and reserves, over 115 playing fields and over 150 playgrounds across Sutherland Shire so I encourage everyone to get out, go exploring and see the exciting changes we’re making!
