The amendments to local government regulations include allowing councils to delay sending out the first quarterly rates notice for 2020-21 and extend the payment deadline by one month. In response to the change in Council’s statutory requirements in relation to the payment of rates, Council will be delaying the issue of the 2020/21 Annual Rate Notice until mid August 2020. The due date of the first rates instalment this year will be 30 September 2020.
For your convenience Sutherland Shire Council offers a range of methods for you to pay your quarterly rates instalment notices:
Online credit card payments
Pay your rates securely online using Visa or MasterCard (0.45% merchant surcharge fee) or American Express (1.4% merchant surcharge fee).
Pay your rates securely online
Phone with credit card
Pay over the phone on 1300 886 435 with Visa or MasterCard (0.45% merchant surcharge fee) or American Express (1.4% merchant surcharge fee).
BPAY
Pay from your cheque, savings, debit, credit card or transaction account via your financial institution using the biller code 1693 and the reference number on your rate notice.
Please note: there is no merchant surcharge fee applicable to Bpay payments made using a credit card.
Direct Debit
Complete a direct debit request form to have your rates payments automatically debited from your nominated bank account. You will still be sent installment notices to remind you when payment is to be taken from your account.
Print out and complete the direct debit request form and return via:

By mail
Mail payments are by cheque only. To be submitted with the bottom of your rates notice. Send cheques payable to Sutherland Shire Council to Locked Bag 17, Sutherland NSW 1499.

Customer Service Centre
Pay your rates at 4 Eton Street, Sutherland, NSW. Accepted payment methods are:
- credit card
- cash
- eftpos
- cheque (made to Sutherland Shire Council)
Post Office
Take your rates notice to the post office. Credit cards are not accepted.
When are my payments due?
Payment is due on the following dates each year:
- 31 August
- 30 November
- 28 February
- 31 May
Please note interest charges may be payable if your instalment is not paid by the due date. Lump sum payments can also be made but must be made by 31 August to avoid interest charges
