The Embers of My Suitable Life
Digital print on metallic paper, thread, natural objects (dried leaves, butterfly wings, dragonfly exoskeleton)
For a long time, the past and its promise of simplicity was something I yearned for. Yet is it truly the past I desire, or rather a romanticised, constructed illusion of it? Inspired by the eccentric style of film director Wes Anderson, my photographs act as highly constructed stills, which attempt to stitch together a perfected ideal of who I am, and who I want to become. Although the use of objects allowed for a desired anonymity and intimacy, what my process taught me is that these intensely controlled scenes ultimately conceal the truth of the present.
