What does it mean to be human? What differentiates us, one from another? The disparity within each individual, structure and physiology versus outward appearance, is one way in which we differentiate ourselves – disarray against formality. The development of my work observes the structures and forms that unite and divide us, with biomedical artefacts contesting the aesthetic and temporary façade of digitally altered collograph prints of children’s clothing and faces. As Chinese artist Yin Xiuzhen said, ‘Clothes are a second skin’, establishing the sense of individualism during childhood – thereby distinguishing us.
