Selling or giving away a dog or cat? The rules have changed

From 1 July 2019, anyone advertising kittens, cats, puppies or dogs for sale or to give away needs to include an identification number. The new NSW Government rules state that the identification number can be either:

    • a microchip number
    • a breeder identification number OR
    • a re-homing organisation number.

This applies to all advertisements including posters, social media sites, online sales sites such as Gumtree and newspapers.
