Council's Animal Shelter is operated in partnership with the City of Sydney Council. The shelter houses dogs and cats that have been found stray or abandoned or have been seized. If animals cannot be returned to their owners, the shelter seeks new homes for them.

Dogs and cats may also be surrendered to the shelter but only under specific circumstances, and by prior arrangement. Please contact us to discuss your situation.

Prior to rehoming, dogs and cats are desexed, lifetime registered, vaccinated and microchipped. The shelter has a wide range of dogs and cats for sale, including puppies and kittens, as well as mature pets. All are temperament tested prior to being put up for adoption.

Low kill policy

Our shelter operates under a 'low kill' policy. This means only dogs or cats assessed to be either a danger or having an illness that would affect their quality of life are euthanased. We are proud of our track record in re-homing pets of all shapes and sizes.

Adopt a pet

We have a range of beautiful dogs and cats looking for a loving new home and you can talk to our friendly staff to find a pet that's best suited to your family and lifestyle.

Dogs available for adoption    Cats Available for adoption

Annual open day

Each November, an open day is held at the shelter which is organised with our partner, City of Sydney Council.  It's a must attend for any animal lover with pet related information stalls. Representatives from the Sutherland Shire Dog Training Club attend and perform an amazing dog training display as well as giving advice on training tips.  Discounted microchipping is also available along with competitions and raffles.

We would like to thank Bayer, which supports the Sutherland Shire Animal Shelter by providing Profender worm treatment and Advocate parasite protection.
