Step 1. Before Starting

Registrations are only available to residents of the Sutherland Shire.

A person under the age of 18 can not own a dog or cat.

Documentation Required

To complete this registration you are required to provide supporting documentation. The documents you need will depend on the registration type.

  • Proof of microchipping more information

    You will need a Certificate of Identification, copy of the Permanent Identification Form or Unregistered Animal Notification.

  • Proof of desexing more information

    If your animal is desexed we require a letter from a vet confirming microchip number and desexing, a desexing certificate or a statutory declaration from the owner stating microchip number and confirming desexing.

  • Pensioner card more information

    Current pensioner concession card or other proof of status as an eligible pensioner. Healthcare card or seniors card not accepted.

  • Recognised breeder certification more information

    Proof of current membership of Dogs NSW, NSW Cat Fancier Association, Waratah State Cat Alliance or any other body approved by the Chief Executive, and, documentation verifying the cat or dog is of a breed accepted by the recognised breeder body, and, a signed statement from the member that the animal is to be kept for breeding purposes.

  • Assistance animal certification more information

    A statement from a recognised assistance animal training organisation (eg NSW Guide Dog Association) that the animal is trained, or is being trained, as an assistance animal and animal is being used as an assistance animal.

  • Working dog declaration more information

    The owner must satisfy council that the dog is primarily used for droving, tending, working or protection of stock (includes a dog being trained as a working dog).

  • Registered Racing Greyhound more information

    Greyhound registered in accordance with the rules under the Greyhound Racing Act 2009.


  • Payment is required when submitting this application.
  • Payment is by credit card only.
  • Your animal registration is not finalised until council has approved your application and a Certificate of Registration has been issued.
