Shiprock Reserve
Shiprock Reserve was upgraded in April 2012.
An elevated stairway provides safe access between Shiprock Road and the waterfront where scuba diving is popular. The two-hectare site was declared an aquatic reserve to protect marine plants and animals. For more information on the aquatic reserve see the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service website, as well as Code of Conduct signage at the site which provides information on the prohibited activities within the aquatic reserve.
The name Shiprock comes from a prominent ship-like rock which forms the headland between Burraneer and Dolans Bay.
Sinclair Family Walkway
The 'Sinclair Family Walkway' is dedicated to the late Henry 'Harry' Sinclair (1912-1994) and Jeannie Louise 'Louie' Sinclair (1906-2003). Harry and Louie immigrated from Scotland in 1921 and 1930 respectively and fell in love with the coastal beauty of the Hacking River, residing at No. 4 Shiprock Road for more than 40 years.
In 2007, the Sinclair Family made the exceptionally generous bequest of the waterfront portion of their property and a sum of money to assist with the construction of the staircase. This wonderful gift has allowed for the extension of the reserve for all to enjoy.
The gates to the reserve close and locked each day at 9.30pm and reopen at sunrise.
