Preventing Children's Falls from Windows and Balconies

Children are seriously injured every year due to falls from windows and balconies. As a parent or guardian, you can help prevent these injuries.

Make sure windows have locks and guards installed that restrict the window being opened. Children climb, so keep furniture and toys away from windows and most importantly, supervise children around windows and balconies.

There’s more information on how to keep children safe at the Westmead Children's Hospital's website Kid's Health.

See the Department of Health Fact Sheet for a useful guide on the steps people can take to prevent children falling from windows and balconies.
