Access & Disability
Sutherland Shire Council is committed to providing a high standard of services for all residents and visitors. We take an inclusive approach to enable access to the activities and services within our community.
A set of Accessibility Maps is available to show residents the most accessible public transport and walking routes.
Public toilets can be accessed using a MLAK Key that fits into specifically designed locks allowing 24 hour access. Eligible people with a letter of authorisation from a doctor, disability organisation, local council or community health centre-can purchase a MLAK key. For information about where to obtain keys or locks within your local area, contact the Master Locksmiths Association of Australia on 1800 810 698.
A beach wheelchair is available for community use free of charge for short-term loans. The chair can be taken on the sand and in the water and is available seven days a week from 8.00am to 4.00pm in summer and 10.00am to 2.00pm in winter. To book the chair contact the Cronulla Lifeguard office on (02) 9544 5399.
Council has an Access Committee which focuses on making the Sutherland Shire more accessible for all residents. The committee advocates for an Accessible Shire and provides feedback to Council regarding accessible planning, policy development and services for residents.
