About National Construction Code of Australia

The National Construction Code is an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments developed to incorporate all on-site construction requirements into a single code. The NCC comprises the Building Code of Australia, Volume One and Two; and the Plumbing Code of Australia, as Volume Three.

What does the Building Code of Australia cover?

The BCA contains technical provisions for the design and construction of buildings and other structures, covering such matters as structure, fire resistance, access and egress, services and equipment, and energy efficiency as well as certain aspects of health and amenity.

What does the Plumbing Code of Australia cover?

The PCA contains the technical provisions for the design, construction, installation, replacement, repair, alteration and maintenance of—

  • water services;
  • sanitary plumbing and drainage systems;
  • stormwater drainage systems;
  • heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems;
  • on-site wastewater management systems; and
  • on-site liquid trade waste management systems
