IN2 is a zone intended to provide a range of light industrial and warehouse land uses. Light industries are industrial activities which do not interfere with neighbourhood amenity of adjacent residential areas. Objectives of the zone are to encourage employment opportunities to support the viability of the centres, to minimise any adverse effects of industry on other land uses, to enable other land uses that provide facilities or services to meet the day to day needs of workers in the area, and to support and protect industrial land for industrial uses.
IN2 zone uses
Industrial zones are now open zones, where primarily the prohibited uses are specified and all other uses are permissible. The benefits of this method is that new uses that are not encompassed into dictionary definitions are permissible, provided they are consistent with the objectives of the zone.
Permitted uses in the IN2 zone include light industries, hardware and building supplies, takeaway food and drink premises and neighbourhood shops.
Prohibited uses in this zone include retail premises (including bulky goods retailing), heavy industries and sex services premises.
For the full list of permissible and prohibited uses please view the SSLEP2015.
