Planning

Council undertakes long term planning to ensure its services and activities are appropriate and relevant for the shire community.

Council's planning

Like all NSW councils, council is required to plan for its services and activities and report on its progress. Council is progressively implementing the Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework, as set out below.

Community Strategic Plan for the Sutherland Shire

The Shire has a long history of strategic planning with the first Strategic Plan adopted in 1999. This Plan has since been revised twice and most recently adopted in December 2011.

Our Shire, Our Future - Our Guide for Shaping the Shire to 2030 is a community plan developed by council with significant community input and will be implemented in partnership with the community and other agencies. It identifies the long term aspirations for the Shire and how progress on achieving these will be monitored.

Delivery Program and Operational Plan

Our focus is on ensuring that through our actions, we work towards our community's vision for the future. Our Delivery Program and Operational Plan sets out what we will be doing over the four year period and the year ahead respectively. They also specify how council's progress and performance will be measured. This then informs how different parts of council plan for their specific function.

Resourcing Strategy

Our 10 year Draft Resourcing Strategy details what physical assets, human and financial resources will support the implementation of the Delivery Program and Community Strategic Plan. It includes Council's:

  • Asset Management Strategy
  • Workforce Strategy
  • Long Term Financial Plan

The Draft Strategy will be considered by Council for adoption in early October 2012.

Environment and Sustainability Strategy

This strategy draws together council's activities from across the organisation that contribute to sustainability. The Shire must be managed sustainably and the purpose of this document is to bring together the environment and sustainability directions that will help achieve this.
