Shire Kids Spring Onto New Cronulla Playground

Eagle eyed Shire residents may have noticed that Cronulla has a new playground!  Our community made their desire for new stay and play spaces around Cronulla clear during the public consultation period for the Draft Cronulla Master Plan.

The new playground in Cronulla Plaza was a huge hit with kids of all ages over the October long weekend, as hundreds of families flocked to our beachside suburb to enjoy the beautiful spring weather.

“The Cronulla Plaza has received a breath of fresh spring air with this new playground, which is one step in the process of revitalizing Cronulla and seeing what the area could become in the future,” said a Council spokesperson.

The playground will be Cronulla’s new play hub for all ages replacing the much loved Pirate Ship in Ocean Grove, which will be removed in the coming weeks.  The new playground in Cronulla Plaza will continue to service the community’s play space needs as the realisation of the Cronulla Masterplan takes shape over the next 10 years.

We’d like to remind the community that this Spring there are numerous activities happening around Sutherland Shire and in Cronulla – including at our Library located in Cronulla Central a short distance from the new playground, also featuring toilet and change room facilities.

Shops in Ocean Grove will remain open while works to remove the Pirate Ship and revitalise the space progress over the coming months.

As this new play space has opened to the public the exhibition of the Draft Cronulla Town Centre Public Domain Masterplan for public comment has now ended with great success. Thank you to everyone who contributed with 119 surveys completed by our community in September, which will go towards informing Council planners of our residents wants and needs for the future of Cronulla.

Emails we received from the community showed a deep understanding and vision for our Cronulla area, which will be invaluable in perfecting the Master Plan further.

Stay tuned for more progress and updates as we shape the future of Cronulla with the help of our community.
