New Clubhouse Helps Engadine Crusaders Celebrate 50 Year Milestone

Sutherland Shire Council has finished work on a new clubhouse for the Engadine Crusaders Football Club in time to kick off the 2017 season and celebrate the Club’s 50th year in 2017.

The Club celebrated the grand opening of the new clubhouse and amenities with a family fun day on Saturday 29 April at Preston Park. Past and current Club Presidents, Jim Hankins and Mitchell Pratt, joined with Sutherland Shire Mayor, Carmelo Pesce and Member for Heathcote, Lee Evans as well as Crusaders players and families to explore the new facilities and celebrate the milestone.

In 2016 Council granted the club a 21-year lease over the clubhouse at Preston Park and worked with the club to progress plans for the new facilities. As well as the change room and storeroom work, Council has updated the public toilets with the additions of an accessible toilet as well as an ambulant one and constructed a covered veranda area.

“It’s great to see such a community-minded Club with strong family connections going from strength to strength,” said Sutherland Shire Mayor, Carmelo Pesce.

“Across the Shire there has been significant growth in female football participation and that was a driving force for new change rooms so that both male and female teams and spectators have appropriate and accessible facilities for match days and training,” said the Mayor.

A $27,500 Building Community Partnerships grant from the NSW Government, combined with $100,000 raised by the Crusaders funded the new clubhouse. The dilapidated toilet block has been completely overhauled to include new changerooms, accessible toilet facilities and a storeroom.

“We’ve worked extremely hard in the off season to ensure that our 50th year is the best yet for the Club,” said Mitch Pratt, President of Engadine Crusaders Football Club. “We’ve welcomed new sponsors, introduced a new club logo and competition uniform, a new website and we’re thrilled with the Clubhouse extensions which were finished in time for the 2017 season.
