Watch the waves. Inhale. Release. Repeat.
Sutherland Shire’s coastline represents one of the most beautiful and environmentally diverse attractions in Sydney.
Now you can take an afternoon stroll along our new coastal foreshore path for uninterrupted views of the ocean as the sun sets. It’s a shared pedestrian and cyclist off-road path with beach access that connects the Cronulla Esplanade coastal walk to the northern end of Don Lucas Reserve. There’s enough room for two cyclists or pedestrians to pass each other safely and comfortably. It’s equipped with bike parking facilities, seating, bubblers and new shower facilities.
This path is the final piece to enhance our 4.5km Cronulla Coastal Walkway, which links several regional parks including Don Lucas Reserve, Dunningham Park, Cronulla Park, Shelly Park and Oak Park. It’s another important project for the community we’re proud to deliver in 2017.
This time last year we increased the amount of open space at Don Lucas Reserve in Wanda by more than 14,000 square metres. We made access to the popular Heritage Sand Dune easier with a shared pathway extending from Sanderson street to the Heritage Dune track. Along the pathway, we installed seating and made provision for underground power to create the capacity to host community events - building one of the most accessible and picturesque open spaces in the area. It also has a fitness track, covered adventure playground, half basketball court, exercise equipment along with picnic facilities and an accessible amenities block.
This extension to Cronulla Coastal Walkway is ideal for romantics, sporty types, families and friends. It’s time to take out the calendar and plan your summer in our beautiful Sutherland Shire.
