Chivalry Kept Alive at the Sutherland Shire Mayoral Debutante Ball

The 41st Sutherland Shire Mayoral Debutante Charity Ball, held at its historic home the Sutherland Entertainment Centre on Saturday night, recreated a world of years gone by with the auditorium transformed into a Winter Wonderland. While hundreds of guests watched in earnest, fourteen debutantes and their partners from eight Shire high schools made their debut to society.

“The Mayoral Ball has experienced resurgence in popularity as the Shire’s young people seek to learn about traditional values such as good old fashioned chivalry. Dance teachers Matt Geronimi and Lacinda Fisk tell me that’s why they choose to be part of the Mayoral Ball; plus they want to give back to the community,” Sutherland Shire Mayor Carmelo Pesce said.

The event also attracted wide support from the local business community who, together with the debutantes, raised money for local charity Orana.

“There is a proud tradition of choosing a local not for profit to be the Ball charity partner and this year I chose Orana,” said the Mayor.

“Local businesses donated prizes for the silent auction and lucky numbers game, and donated money to Orana through sponsorship. The Ball sponsors included Lewis Creative Group, Heathcote High School, Feros Group and Cliff Lewis Printing, Club Central Menai and Westfield Miranda, Coral Air and All Smilez Dental.

“Capital Bluestone pledged $7,500 to Orana on the night which blew everyone out of the water. Orana is still counting the tally for the total raised by the Ball and we hope to have that figure later this week,” said the Mayor.
