Building a Green Future One Tree at a Time

Published On 06 November 2017 at 06:00 AM

We want to make sure trees remain a distinctive part of Sutherland Shire’s character. That’s why we’re strategically planning and investing in good quality tree planting, maintenance and removal through our Green Streets Program - our environment and future generations demand it.

Green Streets has planted 7420 trees to date across the Sutherland Shire, and last month it took out the Excellence in the Environment Award at the prestigious Local Government Awards. The award was for innovation in planning, policies and decision-making on its model to bring back our indigenous tree canopy. With ongoing conversations about development and ageing trees, the Green Streets team gave innovative and successful solutions for the benefit the community.

Starting November, we’ll be targeting main roads to identify trees that need replacing, as well as looking for opportunities for additional planting. We’ll be working on 1-kilometre sections at a time along these major roads.

If you live along one of these roads, keep an eye out for your invitation to be a part of this conservation process.
