Barden Ridge Park was officially opened by our Mayor Carmelo Pesce on Saturday 9 December and brought together Council team members and residents for an adventurous day out in the sun. It was a fantastic day, especially for the children.
The event kicked off with our Mayor asking attendees to pause and take a look at what was around them. He explained how the area had been a flat gravel wasteland at the beginning of the year and now had transformed into a natural leisure place our community can enjoy.
But it was the little ones who appreciated our park the most by jumping right in to test our playground. Toddlers were driving their toy cars along the dinky tracks while the older kids were running in between the open spaces and picnic areas with their pets and getting on the new swings, slides and using the climbing net. It was an action-packed morning that left them all exhausted by the time the event came to a close.
This beautiful park and playground are ideal for children aged 3-15, and here you’ll find:
• An amazing fort that was designed so kids of all abilities can access the different levels
• Fresh landscaping and a range of other play equipment
• A comfortable picnic area to sit and relax.
• A wide - more accessible - activity path for children to learn to ride their bikes in a safe environment.
• Water bubblers
Also present at the event were our friends and students from Lucas Heights Community School. As you may know, Council provided Year 11 (now year 12) construction students with the opportunity to help build the park through a six month work experience program. They are now custodians of this park!
We’re proud to deliver another excellent leisure space for families, children, grandparents and carers. It’s just in time for summer, see you at the park!
