Tomorrow is Anzac Day - a day when we remember every Australian who has served and died in war. Anzac commemoration events being held across Sutherland Shire provide our community, and future generations, the opportunity to reflect and remember the sacrifices made by many Australians in defence of the values we hold sacred. The Anzac spirit that was born in Gallipoli is still as important today as it ever was. In November last year, our Council marked a centenary of Armistice by planting a single Aleppo Pine in each of the five Sutherland Shire Wards, to remember the extraordinary sacrifice of many during World War One. These living memorials honour the Spirit of Anzac. It is so important that we continue to pay tribute to and acknowledge the service and sacrifice of our County’s citizens. In commemorating Anzac Day this year, I will be joined by many of my fellow Councillors in attending services across our community and I hope you will all join me in paying respect and showing gratitude to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for us, so that we can enjoy the lives we live today.
