Australia Day 2021

Australia Day is an incredibly significant day for our nation and we know that many local families and visitors to our region look forward to coming together to share this day at events staged in the Sutherland Shire each year.

However, in light of the current increased risk of COVID-19 transmission in NSW and the Public Health Orders in place, Sutherland Shire Council is regretfully unable to host our program of community events that usually mark Australia Day.

A number of small COVID-Safe community events are still set to be staged - importantly our traditional Australia Day citizenship ceremony where we welcome new citizens who have made Sutherland Shire their home. There will also be family entertainment hosted in a COVID-Safe environment at our Leisure Centres and roving performers and buskers at various locations throughout the Sutherland Shire.

We are proud to be premiering a short film 'Our People, Our Places - Our Shire', a celebration of our local community that will be free and live streaming on January 26.

We would like to thank all members of the community for their patience and understanding as we continue to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, and wish to assure all local residents that protecting the health and safety of our community remains our highest priority.

Assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council.
