Do you have an ancestor who was Aboriginal? Or want to find out more about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in your family tree?

Do you want to trace your family history, but don’t know where to start?

The State Library of NSW has a wealth of material for people engaged in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family history research.

Connecting Culture: Tracing Ancestors is a family history research workshop run by the Library’s Indigenous Services team. It outlines resources and strategies that may assist you in your research, including:

• techniques to search the Library’s collections
• discussion of significant collections held at the Library relating to the local area
• tips for using other important resources for Aboriginal family history research.

Connecting Culture: Tracing Ancestors includes a question and answer session with the Indigenous Services team and a workshop with practical guidance for using the Library’s resources.

This workshop is designed to give you the tools to research Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in your family history. It is a four-hour workshop with activities, and features a light lunch and the launch of Sutherland Shire Libraries’ new Aboriginal Australian collection.
