Sutherland Shire Libraries remain closed until further notice.
Update: Thursday 21 May
Sutherland Shire Libraries are closely monitoring the directives of the NSW Premier’s recent announcement that restrictions will be eased for some community facilities, including libraries. The announcement included strict new protocols to ensure social distancing and safe delivery of services are in place. Council libraries are committed to adhering to these protocols as part of our re-opening plans.
Delivering our services in a way that ensures the safety of the community and our staff remains our top priority.
It is important to note that not all Council-run facilities will immediately re-open as soon as permitted by the federal and state governments, as Council has used the lockdown period to prioritise a range of maintenance and improvement works across a number of our facilities, including at our libraries.
These projects are still underway and we will continue to take a staged approach to re-opening and look forward to welcoming our community back to our refreshed and safe spaces as soon as possible.
We thank our community for their patience and consideration of others at this time. Please continue to look out for one another, practise good hand hygiene, maintain physical distancing and stay home if you’re feeling unwell.
Sutherland Shire Council will continue to provide regular updates to the community on access to public spaces and facilities via its website sutherlandshire.nsw.gov.au/Community/Emergency-Information/PublicHealth#councilservices
Update: Friday 11 May
The Prime Minister’s announcement on Friday 8 May directed state governments to determine how restrictions may be eased for certain businesses and services, including public libraries.
Sutherland Shire Libraries will follow the directives of NSW government agencies, and will consider the full details on the requirements for resuming face-to-face services as they become available. Delivering our services in a way that ensures the safety of the community and staff remains our top priority.
The Library Service has been hard at work behind the scenes since we had to close our doors on 24 March, 2020. We have been improving collections, delivering services remotely and online, and planning exciting changes to our library buildings. This includes upgrades and refurbishment works at Sutherland and some branch libraries, which are now underway to bring the community better, safer, more attractive and more user-friendly library spaces.
We are striving to keep our members informed in this rapidly evolving situation. Keep checking back here for the latest updates on our services. You can also like us on Facebook or follow us on Instagram to keep in touch.

During these challenging and uncertain times, the library is introducing a special Staying at Home Library Service for those most vulnerable in our community.
Even when you may be faced with self-isolation, the Library is here for you. If you've never tried an ebook or digital magazine maybe now is the time! Find out more about what you can access online while the library is closed.
