Ben & Hazel

17 Feb 2018 - 23 Mar 2018

A new mural in the Hazelhurst gardens.

Trina Collins is a public artist, graphic designer and art tutor who was commissioned by Hazelhurst to create two murals, one in the gardens and one in the Hazelhurst Café, following a public call out for submissions in early 2017.

Affectionately titled, Ben & Hazel, the design for her garden mural is based on Ben and Hazel Broadhurst. Ben and Hazel were the original owners of Hazelhurst, their cottage and property, which was bequeathed to the local community following their deaths in the mid 1990s and led to the development of Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre.

She explains: “The pair are represented by Hummingbirds, a nectar eating species of bird that loves the local Gymea Lily shown in the cafe mural. Ben and Hazel had a love of nature and astrology, both of these loves are key components of this mural, with the bush forest and night star and moon sky.”

The mural in the café, Gymea Lilies, features the iconic local flora in a late dusk period. Her aim with this work is to bring the garden into the café and to create a sense of calm and tranquillity.

Trina’s moody creations have brought a new ambience to both areas, and we invite you to come and visit them, be photographed with them and simply enjoy their beauty!
