Art on Paper 2009
27 Jun 2009 - 16 Aug 2009
With prize money totalling $26,000, the 5th Hazelhurst Art Award was bigger than ever in its quest to showcase outstanding works involving paper.
With no restrictions on size, works produced either on or substantially with paper competed for the main prize of $20,000. An award of $5,000 was awarded to a local artist. In 2009 the winner of the main prize was Locust Jones for his work Ride it Till it Dies (pictured above). Paul Williams won the local artist award.
Over 500 people entered the prize and 83 were selected for the exhibition. 21 artists from the 83 selected were local artists, including Belinda Allen, Joseph Bezzina, Betty Bird, Katthy Cavaliere, Tamara Dean, George Gittoes, Christopher Lawrie, Dean Sewell and Peter Sharp. The prize was judged by Professor Anita Taylor, Director, National Art School.
