Washed Out: Kerry Toomey
14 Jul 2018 - 24 Jul 2018
Featuring sculptures, watercolours, and digital prints the exhibition provides a snapshot of what it is like to grow up an outsider in your own country.
I grew up on the fringes of North-Western New South Wales, as a proud Murri of the Kamilaroi nation.
Growing up I was told ancient stories from my family, about a way of life many Australians aren’t familiar with.
Utilising traditional materials like kangaroo fur, echidna quills, and emu feathers I continue my connection to culture, even as a motif of doyleys represents the complex web of colonial oppression creeping in.
Washed Out features sculptures, watercolours, and digital prints to provide a snapshot what it is like to grow up an outsider in your own country.
