Wrapped – concealing is revealing
Oil on canvas
Inspired by the works of Giorgio Morandi and Christo and Jeanne-Claude, my body of work challenges the traditions of the still life genre by taking inanimate objects and concealing them within plain paper bags. The work questions what belongs in a still life, as the subjects of the paintings are a mystery, visible only as their component forms in the bags that enclose them. My work challenges notions of sentimentality and the worth of simple objects by concealing them and placing the value on the wrapping.
