Skin and Stone
Charcoal on paper
Marble has been used since classical times as a medium to re-create the human form. It’s incredible how, when executed to perfection, stone has the power to resemble skin. Through this medium artists gave the gods human form. I used charcoal to juxtapose skin and stone, demonstrating their subtle similarities and differences. The gods I chose have characteristics and symbolise traits that I see in each of my family members, including myself: wisdom, art, the sea and the wild. My body of work encapsulates the ancestry of my culture and my world.
